That Pop Punk Spirit

I record what the Balefire witnessed.

The rest belongs to rumor, memory, and the Dreaming.

Green, gold, and something closer to blood than either dressed the halls of the Graceland Freehold.  The decorations leaned festive, but the execution bore the unmistakable mark of Redcap humor, too sharp, too excessive, too willing to cross the line between celebration and spectacle.  The Balefire burned steady as ever, casting its patient light across gathered Kithain who seemed less inclined toward ease and more toward watching.

Court opened beneath the authority of Duke Aizen.  The formality held, though only just.  There was an awkwardness to the proceedings, a tension not yet given shape but already present.

A Boggan arrived early, visibly shaken, their fear of Duke Poe difficult to miss.  It was not addressed directly, though it lingered in the air.

Lyris passed out green drink among those gathered, a gesture toward festivity that did little to soften the edge already forming.

The Spirit of Rock-in-Roll came restless that night, their presence edged with something sharper than usual.

The shift was not loud, but it was immediate.  Conversation turned quicker, pride surfaced faster, and what might have passed as jest settled instead into challenge.

The Court did not resist it.

It leaned in.

The in-between saw that tension take form.

Spitfire bound their rise in blood, swearing an oath that elevated them to Count. Bodhi followed, swearing to Spitfire and rising to Baron.  These were not empty gestures.

Status moved accordingly.  Twicemore was recognized for their helpfulness.  Prin was named Master Crafter.  Holly, however, was marked with negative status, their conduct deemed inhospitable in a place where such a failing does not go unanswered.  Among the Unseelie, a new presence settled into place.  Duke Vincenzo “Silverclaws” ap Ailil did not require proclamation to be felt.  His standing was understood, another weight added to a Court already testing its balance.

He did not remain quiet for long.

The Freehold itself reacted when Kenny faltered.  The chimerical creatures tied to the space stirred in agitation, their unrest immediate and tangible.  It was only through the Duchess of Danann’s intervention that calm was restored, the escalation halted before it could fully take hold.

Even so, the mood did not recover.

Ronin arrived bearing the marks of battle, having fought a fire salamander while scouting beyond the Freehold’s safer edges.  The Court heard the implication.  Whether it chose to act upon it remains uncertain.

Elsewhere, the cost of the evening’s tone became visible.  An Ogre was found near the shrine to Rock n’ Roll at the Botanical Gardens- what remained of it at least.  The conclusion required little discussion.

Claims to authority surfaced openly.

At one point, Silverclaws spoke plainly, asserting that he should lead the Court. The claim was not framed as ambition or suggestion.  It was stated as fact, and received as challenge in a Court already strained by pride and shifting authority.

Throughout it all, Jarl King Louie observed.

At one point, he claimed a bowl of Redcap “meat” and remained to watch, treating the unfolding Court less as governance and more as spectacle.  He was not alone in the indulgence.

The night did not lack for movement.  Poe was named Envoy, though the title did not remain his.  It passed to Spitfire before the evening’s end.  Stellar Hall was named Sergeant-at-Arms, a necessary counterbalance in a Court that showed little inclination toward restraint.

The line between celebration and confrontation blurred fully as the night progressed.  What had begun as festivity, green drink, strange food, spectacle, settled into something closer to a contest of pride.

The Spirit’s influence did not fade.

 Court closed beneath Poe.

His words were brief, but carried: “Thank you for reminding me who I am.” What followed required no elaboration.  Poe’s essence shifted to Seelie, and with him, the ruling season shifted.

Spring did not arrive gently.

Countess Saoirse was named Liege as Duchess Elora declined the role.  House Danaan did not trifle with the Waking World’s courts.  The decision settled without flourish, though its weight was understood.

The Court dispersed with more left unresolved than settled.

The Balefire burned on.

And though the trappings of celebration still hung in green and gold, the Freehold now carries the memory of a night where festivity gave way to ferocity, oaths were written in blood, and even joy was sharpened into something with teeth.

The Spirit will change again.

Whether the Court tempers itself before then remains to be seen.
